Brendan graduated from Cardiff and started his career as a GP in a teaching practice in Swansea in 1989. In 2003 Brendan completed his MSc in Diabetes and held posts as Honorary Lecturer with Cardiff University School of Medicine and Honorary Clinical Research Fellow at Swansea School of Medicine.
Brendan worked as Medical Director for Cardiff LHB (2004 – 2009) and for Powys (2009 – 2014), before joining the Welsh Ambulance Services NHS Trust in 2014. Brendan provided Executive and clinical leadership for the introduction of the Trust’s new Clinical Response Model. Brendan is responsible for Professional Standards of the Trust, Clinical Audit, Clinical Equipment and Medical Devices, Research and Innovation, Clinical Service Improvement and Medicines Management. Brendan is the Caldicott Guardian for the Trust and is currently interim Deputy Chief Executive.
