Since September 2017, Stephen has been employed by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (BCUHB), Wrexham Maelor Hospital, North Wales as a Principal Research Fellow (Biomedical Scientist), and Academic & Scientific Director of the newly established North Wales Clinical Research Centre (NWCRC).
Stephen is a Fellow member of the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS), a Chartered Scientist (CSci) affiliated with the Science Council, and is a registered Biomedical Scientist affiliated with the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC). Amongst Stephen’s various external activities, he is a specialist portfolio examiner and academic accreditation panel member for the IBMS, and is Deputy Chief Examiner and member of the IBMS National Transfusion Science committee. He is also a Scientific Advisor for the British Urology Researchers in Surgical Training (BURST).
In January 2014, Stephen established the North Wales & North West Urological Research Centre (NW2URC) with Co-Director, Professor Iqbal Shergill (Consultant Urological Surgeon). This research centre is the main vehicle for Stephen’s current research work, which primarily involves investigating patients with benign or malignant disorders of the kidneys, bladder and prostate.
