NVI Wales: Cyber Essentials

28.01.2016 @ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Are you an SME? Do you hold confidential customer data? Do you work within the government supply chain?

Do you ever use public WiFi? Ever wondered if it is secure? Do you allow staff to “Bring their own Devices” to work?

Do you use social media? What sort of footprint are you leaving behind?

How secure is your password? Do you use the same password in multiple places?

If the answer is yes to any of these then…come along on the 28th of January to learn more about Cyber Security and how you can protect yourself and your business.

The work shop will be presented by Chris Benson of CIT Cyber, ex-military data security specialist and secular professional. Chris spent over 10 years in the military working specifically on data security. Along with this high level military experience Chris has held senior roles at BT, NTT (Japanese version of BT) and Nokia. Chris set up Crystal IT Services and CIT Cyber with the aim of helping SME’s with their IT and Cyber security needs.

In the workshop we will look at recent high profile cyber security breaches, but also a few of our own we have come across locally.
We will summarise and provide a brief introduction to the government Cyber Essentials Scheme and why it was brought in and how it helps businesses to protect themselves.
We will also cover how various internal hazards can contribute to cyber security breaches.
How an external breach happens, and what it looks like and how to protect yourself.
We will also cover the devastating effect cyber breaches can have on your business.

Things to take away from this workshop:

1. How to offer free wi-fi to your staff and customers whilst protecting your business, best practice advice. How safe is public wi-fi?

2. How to protect your own and your customers data.

3. What sort of secure authentication you should be using.

4. How to protect your business from internal  and external threats.

5. What should I do if I am subject to a data breach or think I have been?
