Judith Hall blogs about the success of the first Clinical Innovation Wales meeting

Professor Judith Hall OBE blogs about the success of the first Clinical Innovation Wales meeting at the Bill Mapleson Centre:

“We’ve done it, we’ve held our first Clinical Innovation Wales meeting at the Bill Mapleson Centre. The Bill Mapleson Centre was supported by Innovation Cardiff and MediWales. Fifty people interested in making a difference for patients in Wales came together, sharing 8 clinical ideas. Clinicians were helped by designers, industry, business, researchers, academics and specialists in innovation from Welsh Government and the NHS.

After an inspirational address from Professor Sue Bale OBE, we heard short ‘pitches’ from people with ideas and unmet clinical needs. Then came the meat of the matter: small lively round table discussions.

What was the feedback?  People really liked:

  • Diverse networking opportunities
  • Generating ideas and solving problems in the workshop
  • The informal atmosphere
  • The vast majority said that they would be developing their contacts
  • And three people have said they plan to start a trial!

What did people want more of?

  • More than one group session
  • Just wanted more of the same
  • Funding advice options

Very successful networking. Come to our next meeting in June. We have a blog, twitter and LinkedIN. ”
