New board member for Finance Wales

Finance Wales has appointed a former Deloitte partner to head up its audit committee.

Iraj Amiri has more than 20 years of experience in audit and assurance having spent more than a decade running Schroders plc’s internal audit department.

He was also head of the Wellcome Trust’s internal audit team, where he oversaw the management of more than £18bn in investments, and developed internal audit services for Deloitte, where he was a partner, taking the unit from its early beginnings to a team of more than 600 staff.

Finance Wales chairman Gareth Bullock said: “Iraj is an experienced audit and risk management professional. We are pleased to be welcoming him to the board.

“He takes over from Ivar Grey who provided many years of excellent service on the audit committee.”

Iraj Amiri said: “I’m pleased to be joining the Finance Wales board at this time, especially with the proposals for a development bank for Wales currently in progress.”

The role of Finance Wales’ audit committee is to ensure the integrity of the group’s financial statements as well as the effectiveness of its risk management and internal controls.
