Proton Partners International wins life sciences award

Proton Partners International has won the Life Sciences Start-Up of the Year Award at the Wales Start-Up Awards, which took place on Friday 16th September in Cardiff.

The award was open to any start-up based in the life sciences industry in Wales, operating in sectors such as medical technology, medical biotech, pharmaceutical and diagnostics.

On receiving the award, Chief Executive Officer Mike Moran said:

“At all levels of Proton Partners, our team is committed to ensuring that proton beam therapy has an integral role to play in the future of the UK’s battle against cancer.

“To date we have received almost £100 million backing from the Welsh Government and UK investors. We plan to grow the business organically, building new centres and through acquisition, buying existing oncology centres and bolting on proton beam therapy.

“We have plans to build seven UK centres and up to five international centres which will make us the world’s largest operator of proton beam therapy. Our cancer centres will also deliver a significant cost saving and we are confident that our pricing model will appeal to NHS and insurance providers.

“Proton Partners is committed to working with renowned international companies in order to bring the best and most innovative technology to cancer patients across the UK and make a notable mark within the life sciences community.

“We look forward to building upon the UK’s reputation for clinical excellence, and through our academic affiliations, our centres will be at the forefront of proton beam therapy research, using patient experience to inform oncologists and drive improvements in technology.

“Across the world proton beam therapy has delivered significant results for patients, especially in lowering side effects, but in the UK we are yet to start. This therapy is not a panacea but it does make a real difference for patients and will help to revolutionise the level of care that is currently available.

“We are absolutely delighted to receive this award – the recognition within the life sciences community will help us to deliver our goals of ensuring patients receive the best possible cancer care available and revolutionising the UK’s cancer landscape.”
