Salar Surgical wins Best British Medical Startup award 2016

Following their success at the MediWales Innovation Awards in December 2015, Salar Surgical was awarded the coveted “Best British Startup Company” award at the nationwide British Medilink Awards in Coventry on the 20th of April 2016.

Hosted at the Ricoh arena as part of the largest annual British Med-Tech exhibition, the Medilink Awards are shortlisted from the winners from each British regional Medilink area. Salar Surgical overcame stiff, high quality competition to land the award, identifying it as the best British startup company, which further adds to the impressive tally of awards and commendations for the young company.

Quality and Regulatory affairs director Andy Pacey said: “It is a huge award for us, reflecting how quickly we were able to transform a concept into a CE marked, and marketed high quality medical device.”

Clinical affairs director Nick Evans added: “The ease of use, increased safety and cost savings that SP.eye® affords busy clinics in the delivery of sight saving drugs speak for themselves, and this award is a great validation for the work and belief that have driven this product into the market.”

SP.eye® is the company’s first device, and is the only intravitreal injection device which combines precise 3 dimensional guidance with sharps safety. It was designed to help improve the safety and efficiency of intravitreal injection, a procedure in which sight saving drugs are injected into the back part of the eye.

Salar Surgical are proud to be working with partners around the world to deliver SP.eye® to markets including the UK, Europe and New Zealand.

Nick Evans commented: “The provision of intravitreal therapies is of huge benefit for patients and society, but the volume of work to be done means innovative solutions must be found to ensure patients receive the drugs in a timely and safe manner. SP.eye® does that, and we are delighted to confirm that it is now available in sterile procedure packs containing all of the components required to undertake and injection – including SP.eye®. We hope that added value such as this will drive our business, and allow more and more surgeons, nurses and patients to benefit form this technology.”
