TrakCel win Graduate Start-up category at Make Business Happen Awards

The founders of life sciences software start-up, TrakCel, were among the winners at the first Making Business Happen Awards, aimed at encouraging graduate enterprise.

Akshay Peer and Matthew Lakelin of Cardiff-based TrakCel took the first prize in the Graduate Start-up category at the awards, which were organised by the University of South Wales.

The awards recognise graduates of UK universities who have started businesses using the skills and knowledge gained whilst studying.

Julia Lydon, vice-chancellor of the University of South Wales, said: “Our finalists represent some truly extraordinary and innovative ideas, developed by passionate people from across the UK.”

The idea for TrakCel came out of academic research into a software platform for the construction industry. Peer and Lakelin set up an office in Cardiff Bay, enlisted the support of a board of directors, and developed a software platform that codes and tracks tissue and cell samples used in regenerative medicine.
