Cardiff University – Wound Healing Research Unit (WHRU)/WWIC

The Welsh Wound Innovation Centre (WWIC) is the first national wound healing centre in the world.  Established as a not-for-profit organization and partnering with the NHS, universities and industry WWIC was formally launched in September 2014 to co-ordinate and improve the prevention and treatment of wounds throughout Wales.  Wounds have been estimated to cost almost 6% of the annual budget of NHS Wales and the introduction of effective and efficient interventions to better prevent or heal faster has the potential to realise large savings for the NHS while improving the quality of care experienced by patients. WWIC also contributes to the Welsh economy by bringing research and commercial activity in wound healing into Wales.
