BBI Solutions win the Prestigious Made in the UK Export Award

Following on from BBI Solutions’ success of winning the Exporter of the Year Award at the Made in Wales Awards last November, their winning streak has continued having been awarded the Made in the UK Export Award.

The Made in the UK Awards, run by Insider Media, were held at the Liverpool International Arena on Friday 17th June and hosted by Gyles Brandreth.

The ceremony brought together leaders in manufacturing from across the country, celebrating the best in innovation, technological advancements, sustainable manufacturing, plus more. 70 of the UKs’ pioneering businesses were shortlisted across the 9 award categories.

BBI, a leading developer and manufacturer of raw materials and finished test platforms for the in-vitro diagnostics (IVD) market, has been exporting from the UK for 30 years to more than 60 countries. BBI now has manufacturing sites across the globe, with their head office in Cardiff and three more sites across the UK.

The Americas have traditionally accounted for ~50% of the IVD market. In 2005 BBI invested in a US based office, allowing the company to store stock in the US and ship directly to customers, improving lead times and minimising risk to product integrity.

Looking to the future, BBI has identified key emerging market territories as targets for export growth. By entering emerging markets BBI has had to consider cultural needs such as, language and communication. To overcome these issues BBI has employed a local field sales and technical team in mainland China and opened an office in Hong Kong. Sales in China have already grown with a 59% CAGR reaching £2m in 2015.

The judges were particularly impressed with the way BBI has developed good strategies for market growth with plans to grow their e-commerce sales by improving the ease of use of their ecommerce platform.

These awards have showcased the manufacturing excellence within the UK, and proved a prosperous future for the country’s manufacturing industry. These companies are putting the UK on the world map and with the EU referendum around the corner, whichever way the outcome goes, we can be safe in knowing we have stable businesses, providing economic benefits to our country.
