Digital health start-up accepted onto prestigious accelerator

Social prescribing tool Signum Health has earned a place on one of the UK’s most prestigious medical technology accelerator programmes.

The Caerphilly-based technology company is just one of five companies to be accepted onto the South West Accelerator, which is run by the Academic Health Science Network.

Launched in September, the scheme supports digital businesses capable of developing and scaling their innovations across the NHS and health sector.

Running for 12 months, it will provide companies with one-to-one support from NHS specialists, training and workshops, support with product development and networking opportunities.

This is the first time that the scheme is expanding outside of London, with Signum Health representing Wales. It’s developed a tool that provides non-clinical care for conditions like anxiety and depression, loneliness and isolation, and weight loss.

CEO Victoria Norman said: “Signum Health’s core goal is to enable patients, pharmacies, GPs and other alternative healthcare services, to work more efficiently by sharing health information in a way that benefits everyone. To have been accepted on such a prestigious accelerator programme is amazing for us. For the next year we will be mentored by key people within the NHS, introduced to innovators within the health sector and fully supported to grow and expand i-Navigator.”

With offices in South Wales and Taunton, the start-up will receive support from the South West AHSN. It selects digital companies that have the potential to transform the NHS and health system.

“Digital technology is getting more acceptance in the NHS, combine this with an increasing understanding of the social impact on health and a better understanding of the advantage of alternative health and digital solutions – has put Signum Health in pole position to take full advantage of this opportunity,” added Norman. “Social prescribing is key to the future of the NHS, as well as Signum Health’s other core product which offers remote online clinical diagnosis rather than by a face to face consultation, and we are proud to be working with the digital accelerator to make our vision for Signum Health come to life.”
