DTR Medical: September’s MediWales featured member

DTR Medical specialises in the manufacture of sterile single-use surgical instruments and provides cleanroom contract work for medical and pharmaceutical companies.

Contract Manufacturing:

We currently produce over 100 sterile medical devices for a number of contract customers, including class three devices.
The high level of accreditation achieved, ISO9001:2008, ISO13485:2003 and the capability to meet the European Medical Device Directive 93/42/EEC, creates the opportunity for us to undertake contract manufacture for third parties.

DTR Medical has two ISO Class 7 (Class 10,000) cleanrooms and an experienced production and quality team. The facility contains specialist assembly and
packaging machinery to handle a wide range of medical devices.

Contract services include:

• Creation of technical design files
• CE Marking
• Medical device assembly
• Cleanroom packing
• Sterilisation services – we have contracts for gamma, ethylene oxide, and steam
• Liquid filling
• Flow wrapping

For further information on our contract manufacturing service, if you would like to visit the facility, or to discuss your CE marking project, please contact Gavin Williams, Development Manager email: gwilliams@dtrmedical.com or telephone +44 (0) 1792 797910.

Single-use instruments manufacturing

DTR Medical is an innovative, market-led manufacturer, regularly working with expert clinicians to develop high quality medical instruments.
A primary aim of DTR Medical is to initiate and strengthen our links with academics, local innovative organisations, and product or service suppliers in order to sustain the high pace of product development. MediWales has been exceptionally instrumental in helping us develop such links and acts as a catalyst for SMEs to achieve so much more than they could on their own.

A great advocate of collaborative work, currently DTR Medical is undergoing R&D projects with Advanced Sustainable Manufacturing Technologies (ASTUTE) based at Swansea University, which is helping us develop several new products using state of the art techniques. This association is giving us access to health economics support, in order to build our evidence base for the benefits of single-use instrumentation. For SMEs like DTR Medical, collaborative projects empower us to “punch above our weight,” grow faster and expand internationally, creating more job prospects with both ourselves and our supply chain.

Using Welsh suppliers, of which many we have found through the MediWales network, is enabling us to do our bit to revive British manufacturing: we are repatriating products made overseas back to the UK through a mix of knowledge, technology, quality, timing and environmental factors.

An important benefit of membership is the opportunity to meet, debate, and develop ideas with the public sector. MediWales’ personnel have provided us with the entry point to many Welsh Government contacts and areas of support for SMEs. Recently we have been awarded funding for product development and IT support and the wealth of contact we now have assists us with many matters, most notably our export development.
