Genus Chief steps down to join ConvaTec

The chief executive of animal genetics specialist Genus has stepped down to join medical products and technologies company ConvaTec.

Karim Bitar has been chief executive of Basingstoke-based Genus for eight years.

He will leave the group on 16 September 2019 to take up the role as chief executive of ConvaTec from 30 September.

Bitar said: “ConvaTec competes in attractive chronic care markets and has a solid portfolio of products and services.

“I am excited by the opportunity to lead ConvaTec to stronger and sustainable rates of profitable growth.”

Genus is now seeking a replacement. Chairman Bob Lawson added: “During Karim’s eight years at Genus as chief executive, the company has been transformed into a world-leading animal genetics company, truly fulfilling its vision to pioneer animal genetic improvement to help nourish the world.

“He has led the Company’s transformation and is leaving the company in excellent shape with a world-class leadership team, world-class genetics and innovative technology platforms to enable us to pursue many exciting global opportunities.”

ConvaTec has its corporate headquarters in Reading.
