GX: Case Study – MSS Pro Flex Electric Hospital Bed

The Challenge:

To design a bed that helps prevent injury to hospital staff whilst trying to lift or move patients in particular those weighing 25 stone and over.

The Solution:

GX Design Engineers devised a four section electric profiling bed with motorised lift, back and leg angle adjustment mechanisms and an overall safe working load of 39 stone. It incorporated special mechanisms for the side rails, head and foot boards that were all integrated into the main structure of the bed, thus allowing instantaneous access to the patient when required. These items often get lost with traditional beds, incurring additional costs and creating operational difficulties to the care provider.

The Result:

A bed offering infinite variations on six different basic profiling positions and a range of accessories including a Balkan beam frame, monkey and IV poles. Most importantly the innovative mechanism that GX Design Engineers produced minimises pressure to the patient’s sacrum by simultaneously allowing the backrest to move vertically and horizontally.
