Major audio distributor, Richer Sounds, support E2L’s Simple Music Player for Dementia

The design company, E2L Limited, offer a range of design skills in electronic hardware and embedded software, mechanical, biochemical, and industrial engineering. Formed in 1998, the consultants have decades of experience and a dedication to quality. They have collectively covered a wide spectrum of industry sectors, client profiles, work definitions, technologies and methodologies.

The Simple Music Player is an easy to use MP3 player for people living with dementia, designed and created by E2L. The highly successful distributor of audio equipment, Richer Sounds, have included links to the Simple Music Player for Dementia on their own online store.

E2L developed the ’Simple Music Player’ with supporting research from the Bath Institute of Medical Engineering (BIME). The findings confirmed both the benefits of providing people who have dementia with music they remember, and the need for easy operation that such people require. The restorative effect of music vastly improves the quality of life at home, mental well-being, and promotes independent living rather than relying on institutional resources.

With this new player, family and friends can upload the playlist and adjust the volume, and the player is then fully operational through the use of lifting and closing the lid to turn it on and off, and one button to change the track. The music will always continue from where it was last stopped. The styling is also reminiscent of old radios and is instantly recognisable as something which plays music.
