Medilink East Midlands’ premier annual event is set to impress on 15th June

The business support network for Life Sciences in the region, Medilink East Midlands, will once again be welcoming delegates through the doors of its premier event, Innovation Day, on 15th June 2017 at the Doubletree by Hilton, Nottingham. With an exciting line-up of speakers and up to 30 companies exhibiting, Innovation Day is set to be the most significant event of the year for the East Midlands’ Life Sciences.

Returning to host and give her own highly regarded insights is Vivienne Parry OBE, science writer and broadcaster. Vivienne has a wealth of experience presenting for the likes of the BBC and despite being in popular demand as a facilitator for events, Innovation Day remains a firm favourite in her diary.

The programme features Sir John Peace, Chair of the Midlands Engine and one of the most influential business figures in the region. Sir John will give an overview of the Midlands Engine initiative and offer guidance on what it means for businesses. Other government representatives presenting are Rt Hon Nicky Morgan MP, Member of Parliament for Loughborough and John Jeans, MedTech Champion for the Government’s Office for Life Sciences.

Company perspectives will then be provided by Dr Mark Egerton, Chief Executive Officer of Quotient Clinical and Richard Bradley, Pharmacy Director, Boots UK as well as David Browning, Senior Vice President, MediCity. Delegates will also hear from Dr Darren Clark, Chief Executive of Medilink East Midlands and Professor Mike Hannay, Managing Director of the East Midlands Academic Health Science Network. Finally, Lieutenant Colonel Chris Gibson MBE, Defence Medical Directorate will give a presentation on Innovation within Defence Medical Services, made all the more significant with the news of the Defence and National Rehabilitation Centre re-locating to the East Midlands, making the region the UK lead for defence and trauma medicine.

Innovation Day culminates with the Medilink East Midlands Business awards, which celebrate the accomplishments of Life Sciences organisations from across the region. Twelve companies have been shortlisted from over 40 applications by an independent panel of judges, and awards are available in the following categories: Start-up, sponsored by BioCity Group; Export Achievement, sponsored by the Department for International Trade East Midlands; Collaboration with the NHS, sponsored by East Midlands Academic Health Science Network; Innovation, sponsored by Potter Clarkson; and Outstanding Achievement, sponsored by Morningside Pharmaceuticals.

Upperton Ltd, a pharmaceutical spray drying and formulation services company based at BioCity, Nottingham, has been shortlisted in two of the five possible awards. Also shortlisted in two categories are Leicestershire-based Uvamed, creator of Rainbow TraysTM, and Suez WCS Ltd, a water treatment company based in Northamptonshire.

Other finalist companies are: Nutravitality, and NuVision (Start-Up); Ayva Pharma, and Platelet Solutions (Export Achievement); OCB Media, and Q Biotechnologies (Collaboration with the NHS); Attenborough Dental and Nemaura Pharma (Innovation) and Promethean Particles (Outstanding Achievement).

The Medilink East Midlands Business awards are the most significant Life Science awards in the region, and all twelve shortlisted companies have all made a valuable contribution to their respective fields over the past year.
