Microsemi secures £320,000 EU investment

Caldicot-based Microsemi Corporation has secured £320,000 in EU funding towards its £2.5m Medilight project.

Welsh Government finance minister Jane Hutt said that the company had successfully bid for the investment from Horizon 2020, an EU research and innovation programme.

The company makes semiconductors for the communications, defence and security, aerospace and industrial sectors.

The Medilight project is a medical device for professional wound care to enhance the healing process and monitor wounds during therapy.

Jim Aralis, chief technology officer at Microsemi Corporation, said: “The collaboration allows Microsemi to capitalise on its miniaturisation technologies to help deliver innovative wound healing solutions.”

Horizon 2020 is estimated to be worth around €80bn (£59bn) across EU regions between 2014 and 2020.
