New COO To Lead Increased Production at Microvisk

As Microvisk gears up for volume production of its CoagMax® PT/INR testing system, engineer Chris Townsend has been appointed to the role of Chief Operations Officer.

Chris joined the team at St. Asaph on 8 December and will be responsible for all operational aspects of the business: Research & Development, Supply Chain & Manufacturing, Product Quality and Project Management and will act a part of the overall leadership team for Microvisk and report to CEO Jim Thurlow.

Commenting on the appointment, Jim said: “Market interest in our MEMS technology-based diagnostic system is accelerating – as recently evidenced at Medica – and we have new production capacity coming on stream.

“Chris is bringing an impressive track record in medical device development, innovation and volume production to our St Asaph operations at just the right time!”

Chris was formerly VP for Product Realisation and Operations VP with Sphere Medical, with responsibilities for manufacturing strategy and product launch supply chains.

Previous technical management and engineering roles included positions with Owen Mumford, Norville Group, Innovata (Now Vectura), Pfizer, Allergan and Orange.

He holds an MA in Design, Strategy & Innovation (Distinction) from Brunel University and was awarded its Hamilton Prize in 2001.

Chris lives in Gloucestershire with his wife and four children and enjoys mountain biking, running and kayaking down the river Wye.
