New partner for IP firm Wynne Jones

A leading Welsh intellectual property firm has appointed a new partner as part of plans to grow by 25% in 2016.

Cardiff-based Wynne-Jones IP has appointed patent attorney Jim Robertson to head up the firm’s life science team as it looks to grow its market share in this sector over the next five years.

Joining from the London office of international IP firm Marks & Clerk, Mr Robertson is a qualified UK and European patent attorney with over 20 years’ experience.

With an MA in Natural Sciences from Cambridge University, Mr Robertson specialises in the life sciences sector working with companies in the biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, diagnostics and medical devices fields.

A member of the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys Life Sciences committee, Mr Robertson’s key focus will be to grow the company’s life sciences client base, where the sector employs around 11,000 and is currently worth over £2bn to the Welsh economy every year.

The Wales office of Wynne-Jones, which was established over fifty years ago, has a strong background in the life sciences sector working with clients including Cotton Mouton Diagnostics and Alesi Surgical.

Working across both Wynne-Jones offices in Cardiff and Cheltenham, Mr Robertson will work alongside the company’s four other partners to grow revenue after an impressive 15% growth in 2015.

Jim Robertson said: “I am incredibly excited about joining Wynne-Jones IP – I get a real sense of everybody within the business thinking innovatively and working together to achieve and deliver the best possible results for clients. This is something that really resonates with me, and I can’t wait to get started.”

Dr Ian Lambert, Partner at Wynne-Jones IP, said: “We are delighted to welcome Jim to the team as partner. Jim has a wealth of experience and knowledge and having someone of his calibre will certainly aid our company in achieving our ambitious growth plans.

“As one of Wales’ priority economic sectors, the life sciences market is a real focus for us and one where we already have a strong foothold. With Jim’ expertise and international contacts, we’re confident that he is the ideal person to help innovative Welsh life science companies by securing strong IP rights for them which have real value.

“During the interview process, Jim demonstrated excellent commercial awareness with evidence of strong leadership and management skills. He also has the right attitude and ethos for our brand and we’re looking forward to seeing his achievements.”
