Open Innovation Workshop on Cancer Technologies, sponsored by Yorkshire Cancer Research 17-21st June 2013 in Guangzhou, China

The workshop is an enabling forum to encourage and support partnerships between UK and China companies and translational, clinically orientated research groups in academia with complementary innovations and technologies relevant to prognosis, diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of cancer. The workshop will focus on opportunities capable of realising a commercial return (either through sale or out-licensing) inside four years. Therefore participants are encouraged to focus on new applications for existing therapeutics or late stage progression of technologies with a clear translational opportunity for product development.

The event will bring together academic, clinical and business scientists typically with access to one or more of the following:

  • validated new understanding of the mechanism of specific cancers;
  • imaging technologies supporting earlier or improved identification and staging of malignancy
  • companion diagnostics
  • targeting and delivery technologies,
  • novel therapeutic approaches based on known molecules (e.g. pro-drugs, antibody-targeted cytotoxics);
  • computer systems which facilitate more accurate treatment or monitoring of cancer patients.

This is not an exhaustive list, ultimately participants in the workshop will demonstrate in advance their ability to contribute in some way to the more effective recognition, targeting or improved treatment of cancer.
For delegates selected to attend the workshop, all accommodation and subsistence within China will be provided together with £750 towards flight costs. Successful projects submitted following the workshop will attract up to £400,000 funding from the Chinese Government and matched industrial contribution.

To express your interest in attending the workshop, please contact Dr Suzanne Emmett (s.emmett@bradford.ac.uk) quoting “Enterprise Europe Network” and providing full contact details and a brief summary of your area of interest and offering by close of business on Monday 8th April 2013. Applicants selected at this stage will then be invited to provide more detailed information prior to confirmation of attendees in early May.
