SepsisBox Collaboration Wins Made In Wales Award

Once again the collaboration that brought about the development of SepsisBox has won a prestigious award. At the Made in Wales Awards, organized by Insider Magazine, first prize in the Collaboration category went to Rocialle and partners Cwm Taf University Health Board and 1000 Lives Wales for the development of the pack which aims to speed up responses to Sepsis.

This innovative product provides all of the equipment required by a nurse starting time-critical Sepsis Six treatment and clear instructions for delivery, improving effectiveness and efficiency. When delivered to patients with severe sepsis within one hour, the Sepsis Six care bundle has been shown to reduce the relative risk of death by 46.6%.

Rocialle’s Stephen Burt, Managing Director, and Anne Evans, Clinical Product Manager and creator of SepsisBox, received the award in front of hundreds of guests who had gathered at Cardiff City Hall to celebrate achievements across all industry sectors. Stephen was asked about Rocialle’s approach to collaboration and talked about listening to clinicians, understanding their needs and then looking for creative ways in which to support them. Anne spoke about new developments and expanding the range of Sepsis offerings, especially in the areas of maternity & oncology, where patients are particularly at risk.

Developed with Cwm Taf University Health Board and the 1000 Lives Improvement Service, NHS Wales, as part of the Bevan Commission’s innovation programme, Health Technology Exemplars, the Rocialle SepsisBox has been adopted by NHS and private hospitals in England and Wales. Viewed as ideal to facilitate Sepsis Six care at the earliest time, SepsisBox ensures everything required is to hand and easy to administer in the correct order. Being single-use, SepsisBox makes stock keeping easy and improves infection control. Within each compartment of the Sepsis Box, the devices and supplementary items required for each step are provided within their own sterile packaging.

This is the third time that awards have been won by Rocialle for its collaboration with the NHS. At the MediWales Innovation Awards in December 2015, Rocialle received the coveted ‘Partnership with the NHS’ award for its work with NHS Wales and particularly ABM UHB, in the development of a national cannulation procedure pack. Then, in 2016, Rocialle repeated this, winning the same award for the teamwork on SepsisBox.
