Swansea University welcomes leading health expert as new chair at School of Management

A leading health expert has been appointed Professor of Prudent Health and Wellbeing at Swansea University’s School of Management.

Professor Sir Mansel Aylward CB, is chair of the Bevan Commission, the recently appointed chair of Life Sciences Hub Wales, former chair of Public Health Wales and Director of the Centre for Psychosocial and Disability Research at Cardiff University.

School of Management Dean, Professor Marc Clement said the appointment of Professor Aylward is an important part of the School’s ambition to help address the global challenge of health and wellbeing.

Professor Clement said: “Sir Mansel will bring a wealth of knowledge to the School with his extensive experience of working across health, government, industry and academia and will play a key role in developing our health and wellbeing innovation agenda.

“We are already proud to host The Bevan Commission, which Professor Aylward chairs, at the School on the Bay Campus. The Commission, under Sir Mansel’s leadership, is now a well-recognised resource in Wales, providing expert advice on health to Welsh Government and further afield.

“We see Sir Mansel as an innovator who has an abiding commitment to enhance and support leadership, innovation and disruptive thinking across the NHS. We are delighted he will be joining our School.”

Professor Aylward said: “I am both honoured and delighted to be appointed as a Chair at Swansea University.

“The University is on a strong upward trajectory. The opening of the Bay Campus has attracted huge inward investment in the form of research projects. And I look forward to helping the School of Management achieve its vision is to make a difference to society both locally and globally through excellence in teaching and research.”
