Welsh House Builder Raises £10,000 for Tenovus Cancer Care

Staff at Pontypridd house builders Davies Homes have been tackling a series of challenges to raise more than £10,000 for Tenovus Cancer Care.

The latest will see Managing Director Matthew Davies run the London Marathon at the end of April, before a team of more than 20 staff and sub-contractors attempt the Welsh Three Peaks Challenge later this summer.

Last year employees also walked more than 30 miles between three Davies Homes developments in Rhondda Cynon Taf to raise money for Wales’ leading cancer charity.

Matthew Holley, from Davies Homes, said:

“Tenovus Cancer Care does outstanding work and it is greatly appreciated by those that unfortunately have to use their services.

“Davies Homes has been part of this community since the 1980s and we are so grateful to be able to give something back to the people of the valleys and south Wales that have been so supportive of us over the years.

“We linked-up with Tenovus Cancer Care with the purpose of giving back to an organisation we feel is so vital to our local area, because sadly cancer affects so many families.

“We have now doubled our participant numbers from last year’s event and fundraising is already under way for the Welsh Three Peaks Challenge. Everyone taking part is fully embracing it and looking forward to raising lots of money for a charity which does such wonderful work.”

This week, Matthew Holley and Matthew Davies from Davies Homes were given a tour of Tenovus Cancer Care’s world-leading Mobile Support Unit, which delivers cancer treatment in the heart of Welsh communities to save patients valuable time and money.

Carys Jenkins, Tenovus Cancer Care’s Corporate Relationship Manager, said:

“It’s been great fun supporting the team from Davies Homes to raise such a phenomenal amount and we’re really looking forward to working with them again this year on another amazing challenge – the Welsh Three Peaks!

“We’re pleased to be able to say the money they’re raising is having such an impact locally, supporting cancer patients having chemotherapy treatment on our Mobile Support Unit in Nantgarw and it was great to be able to welcome them on board.”
